The History of Avolio
In 1953, Pasquale Avolio left his homeland of Italy and migrated to Venezuela. Pasquale then applied for admission to the United Sates of America. In 1954, Pasquale along with his wife, joined his brothers, Gaetano and Salvatore, in Jeannette. The following year, Pasquale sent for his sons, Anthony, 16, and Fernando "Freddie", 13, who remained in the Village of Pacentro, in southern Italy. Freddie went to work for his uncle Salvatore, proprietor of Jeannette Importing. In 1965, Pasquale and his sons went into business and founded F&A Italian Store in Jeannette. The store measured 2,000 square feet and specialized in Italian foods. Three years after the founding, Pasquale passed away.
Through the years, the focus on Italian foods, personalized service, and fair prices attracted growing numbers of both households and businesses. Expansion followed into a larger location in Jeannette, allowing F&A to further service both retail and wholesale customers. In 1994, Freddie established Avolio Food Distributor in Jeannette. Avolio Food Distributor became strictly dedicated to servicing other locally owned and operated pizzeria/restaurant establishments. Over these years, this specialty has spread into a full-line pizzeria distributor. Since its conception, Freddie has continued to actively operate Avolio Food Distributor as a family owned and operated business.
Now approaching 40 years of business, Freddie continues with his dedication to all his customers. With hard work and loyalty, Freddie has shown that America truly is the land of opportunity.
